Custodial Training Program in Barrie Leads to Qualified Staff for School Board

The Custodial Training Program at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Continuing Education School, Simcoe-Muskoka Catholic District School Board, offers a direct pathway to employment within the board. This innovative program not only addresses the growing demand for qualified custodial staff but also provides students with a shorter, more accessible route to meaningful and sustainable work.

Check out the one-minute video featuring program graduate and new hire, Miigwans Oakes.

In the program, students learn essential skills, earn certifications like First Aid and WHMIS, and gain over 300 hours of hands-on experience.

A similar program is offered in Oshawa by Durham Catholic. The principals of both programs, Brad Shoreman of SMCDSB and Andrea Ellsworth of DCDSB, had many opportunities to network and share program info as members of CESBA’s Board of Directors.

Congrats to SMCDSB for the successful program and also for being named Employer of the Year by Community Living South Muskoka!
