On International Literacy Day, September 8, the National Literacy Alliance published a report on the Case for a National Literacy Strategy.
In the document, the Alliance recommends the creation of a National Literacy Strategy to address recent findings from the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), which report that one in five adults in Canada has difficulty with simple reading tasks.
More than 65 organizations have endorsed the Case, with representation from all three territories, nine provinces, and First Nations and Inuit organizations.
