CESBA ESL/FSL/LINC Administrators’ Lunch & Learn Panel
Program Advocacy in a Time of Significant Change
As two years of pandemic pivoting begins to emerge into a new kind of normalcy, ESL/FSL/LINC administrators find themselves dealing with unprecedented change – in funding, staffing and delivery models, in the needs of students in the programs, in mentoring new colleagues or putting succession planning in place. In all of these cases, advocacy for the programs becomes a prime responsibility for administrators.
Join us for an informative Lunch & Learn panel with CESBA colleagues who will share best practices for program advocacy, followed by an engaging Q & A with participants. This session will begin with a CESBA update on current developments related to language learning programs for adults.
Panelists:
Paul Cox has served as the Executive Director of CESBA since May 2021. Paul had more than 15 years of experience as an Adult and Continuing Education Principal with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, including programs, such as Adult Credit, Adult Non-Credit ESL, Personal Support Worker and Adult Literacy and Basic Skills.
Paul will address “big picture” program advocacy strategies dealing with government and other community organizations.
Diane Elliott has been the ESL/LINC co-ordinator for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board since 2013, and is co-Chair of CESBA’s ESL Committee.
Diane will share insights about program advocacy strategies for larger urban programs.
Erin Jones has been the Lead for ESL and Adult Credit programs for the Avon Maitland District School Board since 2011. Erin is the co-Chair of CESBA’s ESL Committee.
Erin will share insights about program advocacy strategies for smaller and rural programs.
The panel will be facilitated by Mike Saver.

Facilitator:
Mike Saver has been an educator, facilitator and educational leader in a variety of settings for the past 35 years. He has twenty years’ experience as a Courage to Teach & Lead/Circle of Trust facilitator, introducing the program to Canada, training facilitators, and leading programs for educators and other professionals internationally. Circles of Trust focus on the clarified self-knowledge of participants, building emotional intelligence and the ability to hold tension in healthy ways. Mike is a friend of CESBA, and has facilitated the ESL conference day since 2019.
