CESBA Virtual Conference 2021: Call for presenters

CESBA invites you to share your expertise!

This year, CESBA is offering engaging online professional learning opportunities to inform and inspire exemplary practice in adult and continuing education across Ontario.

As a potential workshop presenter, you have an opportunity to lead a learning session with educators from across Ontario.  To ensure a range of viewpoints and diverse experiences, presenters are encouraged to collaborate on their proposals. The workshops will be held on November 25. Please read full guidelines and submit proposal form below.

All sessions, with the exception of the keynote, may be recorded and shared on the CESBA Conference site after the event.

The theme of the 2021 CESBA Conference is Bridges to Innovation, with a focus on:

  • Post pandemic trends and opportunities
  • Best and next practices in virtual learning
  • Building resilience and inclusion
  • Leadership for our new reality

Two WORKSHOP FORMATS

  1. Interactive workshop (60 minutes), using interactive features on
  2. CESBA Combo presentation (25-minute presentations repeated twice with a five-minute break in between)

New Platform for 2021

CESBA 2021 is launching an exciting new conference platform, CESBA Events powered by EventMobi. This platform is user-friendly, allows for more engagement between participants, and lets participants view registered sessions live or OnDemand after the conference. Participants will watch and engage in your workshop seamlessly in the CESBA Events platform, which includes built-in Chat, Polling and Q&A features.

What kind of proposals are we looking for?

Since this a virtual conference, CESBA is looking for interactive proposals that engage our members online! For 60-minute workshops, that means using tools such as chat, break-out sessions, whiteboard and polls.  For the shorter presentations, it means creating questions that connect participants and inspire discussion. And we have professional coaches who can help you make your presentation as engaging as possible!

  • Inspire leadership and cooperation among adult educators and/or students
  • Showcase strategies for designing learning models
  • Present diverse perspectives in response to timely trends and practices in A&CE
  • Encourage a dialogue about current issues and directions that affect adult education today

BASIC INFORMATION

LEAD AND CO-PRESENTERS

Before adding a co-presenter to your proposal, please confirm their willingness to be included.  Lead presenters and co-presenters may not be added or changed after the deadline date for submissions.

PRESENTER AGREEMENT

Workshop presenters will be asked to sign a presenter agreement to acknowledge their acceptance of the terms and conditions of these guidelines, including permission to record and post your workshop and materials on the CESBA website.  The agreement will be emailed with your acceptance.  A copy of the agreement must be returned to CESBA no later than October 8, 2021 prior to the conference.

RESOURCE AND BACKGROUND MATERIALS

  • Presenter permission will be obtained on the Presenter Agreement to share your workshop and learning materials on the CESBA website, following the conference.
  • All workshops may be recorded. Workshop materials will be made available to participants following the conference.
  • Online resources, (including a list of where to seek further information) should support all workshops.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PRESENTERS

All online presenters are required to have the following technical capacity:

  • HD webcam (1920 x1080 resolution)
  • Reliable broadband wired internet connection preferred
  • Desktop computer or laptop. Tablets or smartphones CANNOT be used
  • Headphones and lapel mic or headset with built-in microphone

All online sessions will be assigned a moderator to support participant connectivity and engagement.

WORKSHOP CANCELLATION

  • CESBA reserves the right to cancel workshop sessions prior to the conference. Once your workshop proposal has been accepted, CESBA will confirm your session enrolment numbers about 10-14 days prior to the conference.
  • Some presenters who are not selected for the 2021 conference may be invited to speak at other CESBA events during the academic year.

FINAL CHECK BEFORE YOUR SUBMIT

  • Consider which focus and workshop format best suits your presentation.
  • Review all components carefully to be sure all required information is present and complete.

First virtual conference was a great success

Inclusion 2020 was a tremendous success with over 200 people attending each day to learn and connect with their A&CE colleagues. Thank you so much to all who participated!

Here are some highlights:

  • Pre-conference – Five well-attended all-day sector workshops were held for PLAR/Guidance, ESL/FSL, LBS, PSW and International Languages. Thank you to the CESBA committee members who organized and hosted!
  • Conference
    • Our full-day A&CE learning event included an inspiring keynote by Anthony McLean, 20 workshops, sponsor networking, student performances from Centre d’Excellence Artistique de l’Ontario, and more!
    • Our wonderful co-hosts, Ben Vallati, Superintendent from Ottawa Catholic and CESBA’s Executive Director, Bernadette Beaupre kept everything on track.
    • And at the end of the day, Paul Cox from Waterloo Catholic DSB was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication to adult and continuing education. Congratulations, Paul!

A Big Thank You and Congratulations to Hanne Nielsen

CESBA and all of our community partners send virtual best wishes and hugs to Hanne Nielson, retiring Superintendent of Simcoe County District SB!  Hanne and her husband are off to PEI once she is finishes in December of this year. Hanne worked with SCDSB for 30 years and 20 were in Adult and Continuing Education.

Hanne and her mighty team at Simcoe County developed and shared numerous best practice resources, strategies, professional development approaches, research, curriculum and marketing materials and much more with CESBA members and the field for many years. 

Her ability to innovate and solve problems in a creative ways are endless. Her board was one of the first to develop integrated programs at sites in her catchment area, so that students could seamlessly move between programs and experiment with various career pathways. Students can access services from multiple programs and move to others such as adult literacy, adult credit, ESL for adults and employment services.

Join us in wishing Hanne many new, big adventures in Canada’s smallest province, PEI!

Motivational speaker Anthony McLean announced as keynote at CESBA 2020 virtual conference

We are pleased to announce our keynote speaker for CESBA’s virtual conference on Thursday, November 26.

Inclusivity in Education: Better than Diversity

With a background in theatre, Anthony McLean delivers lively presentations on mental health, diversity, and inclusion. He has delivered hundreds of inspiring talks across Canada, the US, and Australia, and, as a respected voice in his field, appeared on CBC News, Global Toronto’s Morning Show, and Breakfast Television. Delivering research-backed tools and actionable strategies, McLean always leaves his audiences inspired to bring their best every day.

McLean is also an actor who has starred in television commercials for Ford, Milk, Tim Horton’s, Sprite, Verizon Wireless, and Bell. He also hosted the CBC Television show The X and was featured in the documentary films Colour Me, SOAR, and Rising Above. In his theatre career, McLean participated in the renowned Stratford Festival where he developed his passion for Shakespeare. He also loves to freestyle rap — give him any topic in the world and he’ll make up a rap on the spot about it.

McLean is currently writing his first book, Mental Health for High Performers.

CESBA vous invite à partager vos connaissances!

Cette année, CESBA offre d’intéressantes possibilités d’apprentissage professionnel en ligne pour informer et inspirer des pratiques exemplaires dans le domaine de l’éducation des adultes et de l’éducation permanente en Ontario

Si vous présentez un atelier, vous aurez la possibilité d’animer une séance d’apprentissage avec des éducatrices et des éducateurs des quatre coins de l’Ontario. Les présentatrices et présentateurs seront encouragés à collaborer afin d’assurer qu’une vaste gamme de points de vue et d’expériences sont présentés. Types de propositions recherchés

Comme il s’agit d’une conférence virtuelle, CESBA recherche des propositions interactives qui encouragent la participation en ligne! Pour les ateliers de 60 minutes, on utilisera les outils Zoom, dont clavardage, séances en petits groupes, tableau blanc et sondages. Pour les présentations carrousel plus courtes, on créera des questions d’intérêt commun inspirant la discussion. Des professionnels seront à votre disposition pour vous aider à rendre votre présentation la plus intéressante possible!

  • Inspirer le leadership et la coopération entre les éducateurs et les élèves adultes
  • Présenter des stratégies de conception de modèles d’apprentissage
  • Présenter diverses perspectives en réponse aux tendances et pratiques en vigueur dans le domaine de l’ÉAÉP
  • Encourager le dialogue sur les affaires courantes et les décisions qui concernent l’éducation des adultes aujourd’hui

Avant d’ajouter une co-présentatrice ou un co-présentateur à votre proposition, veuillez confirmer que vous avez son consentement. Aucune modification ne sera permise après la date limite de soumission en ce qui a trait aux présentateurs principaux et aux co-présentateurs.

FORMULAIRE DE CONSENTEMENT

On demandera aux présentatrices et présentateurs de signer un formulaire de consentement pour attester qu’ils ont lu les modalités et conditions de ces lignes directrices, et autoriser CESBA à enregistrer et à présenter les ateliers et la documentation sur son site WEB. Ce formulaire vous sera envoyé par courriel. Il faudra le renvoyer à CESBA au plus tard le 9 octobre 2020.

EXIGENCES TECHNIQUES (PRÉSENTATEURS)

Toutes les présentations en ligne nécessitent les fonctions techniques suivantes :

ANNULATION DES ATELIERS

  • CESBA se réserve le droit d’annuler les ateliers dont la participation est faible, avant la conférence. Une fois votre proposition acceptée, CESBA confirmera le nombre de personnes qui s’y sont inscrites 10 à 14 jours avant la conférence.
  • Certaines des personnes non retenues pour faire une présentation à CESBA 2020 pourraient être invitées à d’autres événements au cours de l’année scolaire.
